Job Description

Brief overview of the role

The Apprentice Medical Administrator is a unique role which combines the traditional role of Medical Receptionist with the role of Medical Administrator. The post holder will therefore have administrative and receptionist responsibilities.

What will the apprentice be doing?

In this role, you will be working towards a Level 2 in Customer Service, some of the key tasks you will be undertaking are as follows:

  • Computer data input/Reporting
  • Handling queries (with patients and other agencies) on the telephone and in-person
  • Liaising with the Management Partner/Assistant Manager, practice and attached staff and outside agencies
  • Working with protocols
  • General administration and reception work (photocopying, filing, shredding etc.)
  • Typing referral letters, reports etc. (including audio typing)
  • Inputting data onto the computer system
  • Liaising with others (internal and external), regarding a patient’s care
  • Monitoring quality and outcomes framework performance and actively contributing to achieving higher QOF thresholds
  • Maintaining an accurate patient call and recall system
  • Summarising medical records
  • Scanning and coding medical correspondence
  • Administration of medical records

Throughout this apprenticeship, you will be in contact with the Management Partner/Assistant Manager, Clinicians, and attached practice staff, Secondary Care, Community Staff, Redcar college (training provider) and other outside agencies.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner at Redcar & Cleveland College.
  • Functional Skills Maths & English, if required.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This is a fixed-term contract with the possibility of progressing within the company at the end of the apprenticeship.

Working week

37 hours, Monday – Friday. Shifts to be confirmed.
