Brief overview of the role

Normanby Primary School are looking for an apprentice to provide support in their nursery and reception classes. The apprentice will help with the development of all students. You will be completing a Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship alongside this role. You must have a level 2 in Childcare to apply.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Under the guidance of teaching/senior support staff, you will provide support for pupils who require help to enable access to learning and to assist in the management of pupils. Some of the tasks you will be undertaking are:

  • To assist with developing an understanding of the learning needs of students and the use of this knowledge to support them to become independent learners in the classroom
  • To take into account students learning needs and ensure their access to the lesson and its content through appropriate clarification, explanations and use of equipment and materials
  • To participate in the preparation of the classroom as required
  • To reinforce specific targets to address individual learning needs within the classroom setting
  • To provide useful learning strategies in order to develop a range of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students
  • Assisting with monitoring student’s responses to learning activities and progress towards targets, recording achievement and feedback to teachers as required
  • Helping to encourage students to act independently as appropriate
  • Assisting students to interact with others, and engage in activities which are led by the teacher
  • Support the teacher in managing student behaviour, reporting as and when appropriate
  • To help undertake student record-keeping as directed by the teacher
  • Accompany teaching staff and students, as appropriate, on visits and trips
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as and when required
  • To assist in supporting those with special needs and be flexible in your approach to accommodate those specific needs as outlined within the student profile information and EHC plan
  • To assist in promoting development and learning (physical, emotional, educational, social), to assist in fostering growth, self-esteem and independence and assisting in observing and recording development
  • To be available for the supervision and monitoring of students at specific duties including; break, lunchtime duties and before and after school duties
  • To assist in carrying out reasonable daily personal care and hygiene duties

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard:

  • Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification
  • Day release at Redcar & Cleveland College
  • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required
  • First aid qualification

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

An opportunity for a full-time position at the end of the apprenticeship.

Working week

37 Hours, Monday to Friday, hours to be confirmed.
