Brief overview of the role

Brotton Surgery – The Apprentice Medical Receptionist is a unique role which combines the traditional role of Medical Receptionist with the role of Medical Administrator. The post holder will therefore have administrative and receptionist responsibilities. The successful candidate will be completing a Level 3 in Business Administration.

Vacancy description

In this role you will be working towards a level 3 in Business Administration in a busy surgery, some of the key duties you will be undertaking are as follows:

  • General administration and reception work (photocopying, filing, shredding etc.)
  • Typing referral letters, reports etc. (including audio typing)
  • Maintaining and accurate patient call and recall system
  • Handling queries (with patients and other agencies) on the telephone and in person
  • Liaising with the Management Partner/Assistant Manager, practice and attached staff and outside agencies
  • Working with protocols
  • Computer data input/Reporting
  • Inputting data onto the computer system
  • Liaising with others (internal and external), regarding a patient’s care
  • Monitoring quality and outcomes framework performance and actively contributing to achieving higher QOF thresholds
  • Summarising medical records
  • Scanning and coding medical correspondence
  • Administration of Medical Records

Throughout this apprenticeship, you will be in contact with a range of different patients, clinicians, practice staff and Redcar and Cleveland College.

Working week

  • 37 hours, Monday – Friday, shifts to be confirmed.

Future prospects

This is a fixed-term contract with the possibility of progressing within the company at the end of the apprenticeship.

  • Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
