Job Description

3 posts available, one post at Bishop Auckland Hospital, one post at University Hospital North Durham and one post at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

The post holder will participate as part of the team within endoscopy in both a clerical and housekeeper capacity.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve working closely with support services, monitoring quality standards, reporting of deficiencies, the preparation and organization of patient documentation, as well as assisting in ensuring the department is clean, organized and conductive to excellent patient care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Administration

• Support the preparation of patient pathway documentation and follow the correct process for its disposal (i.e. to scanning / endoscopy secretary) as appropriate.

• Receive and sort incoming post and prepare outgoing post for internal and external delivery.

• Maintain a filing system for all patient documentation.

• Order office supplies.

• Deal with telephone enquiries – internal/external.

Environment

• Receive, welcome and assist patients and visitors to the Department, exhibiting professional behavior and attitude at all times.

• Ensure the environment is safe and clean at all times- reporting any problems to the nurse in charge.

• Assist in the preparation, cleaning and checking of equipment.

• Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy patient beverage area and with the preparation of patient refreshments.

Stock Control

• Liaise with the procurement team to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.

• Ensure stock rotation is practiced and expiry dates are adhered to.

• Monitor deliveries of stock and ensure that items are put away in a timely manner.

• Inform nursing staff of any potential stock shortages.

• Maintain adequate patient catering supplies

• Ensure adequate bed linen and patient gown supplies.

Equipment

• Participate in daily/weekly equipment checks.

• Ensure that equipment defects/issues are logged, reported and closed down as appropriate.

• Monitor and co-ordinate ad hoc maintenance, liaising with Medical Engineering/Helpdesk as required.

Infection Control

• Adhere to Trust Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.

• Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of Endoscopy cleaning and Infection Control standards.

• Ensure cleanliness of general and specialist equipment.

• Have an active role in ensuring the Department is safe and tidy and that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained at all times.

Patient care:

• Record and document patient observations and report to the nurse on duty

• Assist patients with personal care if required

• Preparing refreshments for patients

• Assist in the transfer of patients from one clinical area to another
