Job Description

Outwood Academy Acklam, which was the first Outwood school in Teesside, has almost 1200 students on roll.  At its latest inspection, it was judged to be a GOOD school with OUTSTANDING leadership. We are a diverse and vibrant 11-16 academy, based in the friendly, north-east town of Middlesbrough.

We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child.  We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.  In a beautiful setting, enjoy the state-of-the-art facilities that the academy has to offer.

We have a holistic and inclusive approach to the work that we do.  The Academy has received accolades and external recognition, with the awarding of the Inclusion Quality Mark – Centre of Excellence, alongside the Carnegie ‘Gold’ Mental Health Award for the work we do to support our diverse and dynamic student body.  The Academy has a Higher Needs Base, providing additional support for students with moderate learning difficulties and/ or those on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD).

We offer an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and motivated English team.  An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject is essential.

We believe that English and literacy are the bedrock of,  not only our school but also in life.  We are a passionate department who have purposefully built a curriculum to celebrate the diversity our school displays and to widen students’ horizons.

We have a wealth of new, exciting and relevant texts and English themes which drives our KS3 curriculum offer, delivering competent learners equipped with the skills to thrive at KS4.

We have consistently strong record of delivering outcomes at 4+ and work tirelessly to ameliorate any barriers to learning.  With a consistent body of staff led by a Head of Department, Progress Leaders and supported by an exceptional team of subject specialist directors, you will be joining a strong and dedicated team.

Prospective applicants are welcome to contact us if they have any questions or would like to arrange a tour of the academy.  Come and see what we are all about by contacting Jade Delaney, Head of Department at j.delaney@acklam.outwood.com or by calling 01642 818200.
