Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Groundskeeper who will be responsible for maintaining the airport grounds, ensuring an attractive and safe operation of the airfield and overall airport grounds. Routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and various ad hoc tasks including cleaning, operating vehicles and supporting the wider team with the overall efficient operation of the airport.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining both landside and airside airport grounds by strimming, mowing, removing shrubbery, cleaning the areas and performing other tasks as assigned in daily schedules.
  • Applies cultural and chemical weed control.
  • Disposes of FOD where necessary following the correct process.
  • Operates and performs minor routine service on equipment, including lubricating equipment, adding fuel, oil, water, and other fluids when needed.
  • Drives/operates company vehicles including Tractors, Tugs, Quad bike & Forklift.
  • Using specialist equipment including chainsaw & weedkilling backpack.
  • Reports any accidents or safety concerns through the correct processes and follows up where appropriate.
  • Communicates the needs of the airport grounds to appropriate manager.
  • Assists with snow clearing & De-icing of airside/landside areas including driving & operating snow equipment.
  • Assisting Multi Skilled Operatives / Airfield Duty Manager with duties where needed, including cleaning, assisting with ‘persons with reduced mobility’ and escorting of vehicles.
  • Assisting with other general maintenance of gardening equipment / repairs jobs and tasks where necessary.

Requirements

  • 2 years previous gardening / groundsman experience
  • Ability to operate a range of machinery and powered tools
  • Knowledge of gardening tools and techniques and application of fertilisers / treatments.
  • Hold an Arborist certificate or has the ability to pass the course

Due to the nature of the 24/7 operation within the airport environment, the role will involve the ability to work flexibly to ensure a presence within the terminal which will include early starts, late finishes and ad-hoc weekend cover.
