We’re growing rapidly and as a result we’re looking for a Lead Character Artist to join our studio in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside. As a Lead Character Artist at Double Eleven, you’ll be leading the creation of the characters for a Major Important RTS IP, directing and implementing the assets within a set technical pipeline, whilst setting schedules, managing other artists and responsible for any required outsourcing within the project; directing, scheduling and implementation of character assets. 

In this role you will set up camp at our HQ in Middlesbrough. We are continuing to assess the covid-19 situation, and our studio is set-up with the necessary covid-19 support measures to keep our teams safe. The wellbeing of our teams is at the heart of everything we do, and we are keen that all our teams feel safe and reassured.

  • Specialising in the creation of a wide variety of 3D character models; from human through to creature and from realistic to stylised
  • Work directly with other Leads to keep quality and style consistent across all art assets
  • Fully understand and work around existing art pipelines Able to manage, direct and implement any required outsourcing for the projects
  • Produce rich materials and shaders that complement and enhance the 3D models
  • Reviews work for quality and carry out various supervisory responsibilities
  • Capable of owning development of, and delivering, content while leading by example
  • Provide direction to Character Artists for aesthetic and technical considerations
  • Proactive in finding answers and able to clearly communicate issues and direction to the team
  • Works with Production to prioritise work and maintain a clear and consistent schedule
  • Upholds a sense of professional ownership, keeps a positive attitude, and ensures tasks are completed to quality
  • Able to manage and mentor career development of 3D Artists at various skill levels


  • Shipped at least one title as a Senior or Lead Character Artist
  • A strong portfolio illustrating proficiency as a Senior or Lead Character Artist
  • Experienced in working with outsourcers
  • Excellent understanding of human anatomy and posing characters
  • Expert understanding of Maya/Max, Z-Brush, Substance Painter
  • Expert experience generating PBR materials and shaders
  • ​Excellent understanding of the character art pipeline, dependencies, and overall scope of the project
  • Advanced experience with real-time 3D packages such as Unreal or Unity
  • Demonstrates an ability to work with detailed concept art or reference art materials
  • Strong artistic skills
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Organised and practices good time management skills
  • Experienced in managing direct reports and personal development
  • Plans Experienced working in an Agile workflow
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written
