Job Description

An excellent opportunity to learn Customer Service within a busy medical practice. At Hirsel Medical Centre you will ensure that the reception area of the Practice runs smoothly and provides a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the Practice team.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Making appointments
  • Taking requests for prescriptions
  • Home visit requests
  • Deal with general enquiries and complaints
  • Contacting other providers
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors
  • Making appointments
  • Filing/handing out prescriptions
  • Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to the next shift, as necessary
  • Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery
  • Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services
  • Deal with general enquiries and complaints
  • Pulling hard copy notes when requested by doctors
  • Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions
  • Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols if required
  • Input and extract information from Practice computer system
  • Photocopying, shredding
  • Updating notice boards and posters
  • Observe health and safety guidelines at all times
  • General housekeeping (e.g. keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)
  • Make refreshments for doctors and other team members, participate in washing up
  • Any other reasonable duties as necessary

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship
  • Training is undertaken with knowledge classes taught face to face, workshops and 1:1’s. Delivery sessions are held weekly, half a day a week
  • Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
