Job Summary
You will be responsible for implementing, monitoring and maintaining the project’s Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements throughout the construction lifecycle. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the role ensures that all project activities are undertaken in accordance with company procedures, client requirements, statutory legislation and recognised industry standards.
The SHE Manager provides professional guidance to the project team, monitors compliance, identifies opportunities for improvement and supports the safe and environmentally responsible delivery of the project. The role is primarily site-based and works closely with operational teams, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure SHE standards are consistently achieved.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety Management
•Ensure all project-specific SHE documentation is in place, reviewed and approved prior to the commencement of construction activities.
•Monitor compliance with company policies, client requirements and relevant health and safety legislation.
•Conduct regular site inspections, workplace inspections and compliance audits.
•Identify unsafe acts and conditions, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
•Review Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work for suitability and compliance.
•Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and monitoring completion of corrective actions.
•Monitor the effectiveness of site control measures and recommend improvements where required.
•Support the Project Manager in managing project risks and maintaining a safe working environment.
•Maintain accurate SHE records, inspections, permits and statutory documentation.
Health Management
•Monitor compliance with company health procedures, client requirements and relevant Occupational Health legislation across the project.
•Ensure health-related risks are identified through suitable and sufficient risk assessments and that appropriate control measures are implemented and maintained.
•Verify that any reasonable adjustments identified through Occupational Health assessments or management referrals are implemented on site where applicable.
•Monitor workplace health risks, including exposure to noise, dust, vibration, hazardous substances, manual handling and other occupational hazards, ensuring effective controls remain in place.
•Conduct regular site inspections to verify that health control measures are being followed and remain effective.
•Investigate health-related incidents and identify corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
•Ensure welfare facilities are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements and client expectations.
•Advise the Project Manager on health risks that may impact the safe delivery of the project and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
Environmental Management
•Monitor compliance with the project’s Environmental Management Plan and environmental controls.
•Ensure appropriate waste management, pollution prevention and environmental protection measures are implemented.
•Carry out environmental inspections and monitor compliance with environmental legislation and client requirements
•Investigate environmental incidents and ensure appropriate corrective actions are completed.
•Promote good environmental practices across the project.
•Monitor environmental performance and report any none-compliance or emerging risks.
Compliance and Reporting
•Carry out planned SHE inspections and audits in accordance with project requirements.
•Maintain accurate project SHE records and documentation.
•Prepare SHE reports, inspection findings, KPI data and project performance updates for the Project Manager.
•Monitor the close-out of actions arising from inspections, audits and incident investigations.
•Liaise with client representatives, subcontractors and regulatory authorities on project SHE matters as required.
•Support external audits and client inspections relating to the project.
Business Expectations:
•Act as the project’s lead advisor on all Safety, Health and Environmental matters.
•Provide practical, solutions-focused advice to the Project Manager and site management team.
•Promote a proactive culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the project.
•Build positive working relationships with site personnel, subcontractors and client representatives.
•Maintain a visible presence on site through regular monitoring and engagement.
•Escalate significant SHE risks or none-compliances promptly to the Project Manager.
•Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and sound judgement in all interactions.
•Support the successful delivery of the project by ensuring SHE requirements are integrated into day-to-day operations.
Competency Requirements:
Technical Competencies
•Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation applicable to construction projects.
•Good understanding of environmental legislation and environmental management principles.
•Ability to conduct inspections, audits and incident investigations.
•Experience reviewing RAMS, permits and project SHE documentation.
•Strong report writing and record management skills.
•Good analytical and problem-solving ability.
•Competent in Microsoft Office and electronic SHE management systems.

Other Requirements:
•Experience in a SHE role within construction, engineering or industrial projects.
•Experience implementing SHE requirements on live construction projects.
•Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
•Experience working with subcontractors and client representatives.
•Experience supporting externa audits and client compliance inspections.
Qualifications:
Essential:
•NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals
•NEBOSH General Certificate
•Appropriate membership of IOSH (Technical, Certified or higher)
•Internal Auditor qualification or equivalent experience
•CCNSG Safety Passport
•Full UK Driving Licence
