We’re looking for a Stores Technician to be an essential part of our team!
The ideal candidate will be an individual with a background in mechanical engineering, strong organizational skills, proactive with the ability to multitask, and with a focus on providing excellent all-round support.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Machine Shop Supervision Team, you will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of the engineering and general stores, ensuring that goods, tools, consumables, and measuring equipment are correctly received, stored, maintained, and issued in a timely and accurate manner, supporting the needs of production and the wider business.
Key Responsibilities:
Support goods inwards process:
- Take receipt of deliveries, inspect incoming goods for damage or discrepancies
- Accurately receipt items on the ERP system and store in designated locations
- Report any discrepancies of faults to the Purchasing team
Tooling and stock handling:
- Issue tools, measuring equipment, and consumables to production personnel as required, recording all movements
- Ensure returned tools are checked, cleaned, and stored appropriately
- Support with stock checks and audits
Stores organisation and housekeeping:
- Maintain the cleanliness, tidiness, and organisation of stores and tool crib areas
- Ensure walkways and exits are kept clear and comply with health and safety procedures
Packaging and dispatch:
- Assist with packaging of outgoing items, checking contents against dispatch notes
- Organise and prepare goods for courier collection in conjunction with the purchasing team
Stock control and replenishment:
- Monitor stock levels of consumables and tooling
- Notify supervision when stock reaches reorder levels
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records
Equipment and safety:
- Use handling equipment safely and according to training
- Follow all company health, safety and environmental and quality procedures
- Ensure PPE is used and stored correctly
ERP and records:
- Accurately input data relating to stock movements and usage
- Maintain good filing and documentation habits to support traceability
Person Specification:
Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a machine shop role.
- Experience using machine shop tooling including milling cutters, inserts, tool holders (collet chucks, arbors), turning tools, boring bars, taps
- Experience in a stores or toolroom role
Desirable
- Experience in a stores or toolroom role
Knowledge
Essential
- Familiarity with consumables including coolants, deburring tools, measuring equipment, workholding.
- Basic understanding of stock control and inventory systems
- Knowledge of digital inventory management
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Ability to use handheld tools safely
- Basic computer literacy (email, spreadsheets)
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. MRP, SAP, Pegasus, etc.)
- Forklift licence or manual handling training
- Good general education (GCSE or equivalent)
- NVQ or BTEC in engineering
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
- Positive team player with a willingness to learn
- Adheres to health and safety procedures
- Able to carry out manual work and lift moderate loads
Desirable
- Knowledge of digital inventory management

Rewards and benefits
Salary – £15.50 per hour
Working Hours – 38 hrs /week
Monday – Thursday 8.00am – 4.30pm (½ hour unpaid lunch break)
Friday 7am – 1pm
