Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a Student Adviser (Welfare & Advice) who can provide advice, guidance and support to students experiencing a range of welfare-related issues including domestic violence, bullying and harassment, housing, financial hardship, honour-based abuse etc. You will work closely with internal and external support services to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed in their studies and university life.

Key responsibilities include.

  • working one to one with students to provide support and advice in the area of welfare.
  • working with students to assess their needs and decide on appropriate interventions.
  • assessing levels of risk in relation to student safety
  • signpost and refer students to appropriate services.
  • create and deliver staff training on welfare related issues.
  • raise awareness of welfare related issues through campaigning and student facing events

The successful candidate should

  • have extensive knowledge in welfare related issues.
  • have experience assessing risk.
  • have understanding of the higher education environment and of student needs.
  • have the ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • have a proactive, collaborative and compassionate approach to student wellbeing and welfare.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our clearance procedures.

Please be advised that due to the minimum salary thresholds imposed by the UKVI, this post may qualify for university sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.
