Brief overview of the role

Dots ‘n’ Spots Day Nursery are looking to recruit a passionate individual as a nursery practitioner. Under the supervision of the manager and the board of directors/trustees the practitioner will follow the lead of the other practitioners in caring for the children. This is a level 2 apprenticeship, but you can complete a level 3 Early Years qualification depending on experience.

What you’ll do at work

This role will be based in their Toddler room, taking care of children aged 30 months to 36 months.

Responsibilities include:

  • To provide the highest standard of care, ensuring a happy, friendly, safe, stimulating and secure environment.
  • To follow, and have a good working knowledge of Dots n Spots policies and procedures throughout your daily routine.
  • To update daily records, attendance, check sheets, planning and development records, tracking, summative assessments and personal files for the children.
  • To have sound knowledge of the EYFS, implementing, reflecting, observing and adapting activities within the room. Observations must positively reflect learning, and provide next steps that are followed.
  • Administer medication, completing medicine forms, medical care plans and allergy information.
  • To undertake any training identified by the room leader or manager.
  • To respect and build strong relationships with parents/carers in order to provide the best care for the children. To assist in any routines established at home.
  • To drop off and collect children from school, ensuring all procedures are followed.
  • To manage children’s behaviour in accordance to the settings Dots n Spots policies.
  • To liaise with the SENCo and other professional involved in the children’s care, following strategies in place, and meeting targets set.
  • To report any child protection concerns to your room leader or safeguarding officers. Following Dots n Spots report, record, and monitor procedures. All information must be kept confidential.
  • To participate in planning, carry out activities that follow the EYFS outcomes.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Work as part of a team, ensuring any issues are resolved, promoting a positive working environment throughout the nursery.
  • Support the managers in promoting the nursery.
  • Ensure a high standard of hygiene is promoted.
  • Assist in cleaning of the nursery.
  • To follow food hygiene when dealing with meals and snacks.
  • Upholding a food hygiene certificate.
  • Take part in first aid training, administer first aid when required.
  • Recording all incidents, accidents, and substantial accidents/injuries from home.
  • Answer the telephone, and deal with enquiries professionally and pass any messages or complaints to an appropriate person.
  • To be cost effective with resources, use time efficiently.
  • Work together with the managers to implement the business plan.
  • To undertake any duties as may be required.
  • To complete course work for your qualifications.
  • Use the Off the Job hours to complete apprentice work set by the assessors.
  • To participate in one-to-one supervisions and reviews with your training provider.

Hours

Monday to Friday, shifts to be confirmed.

30 hours a week

Your training plan

  • Level 2 or 3 Early Years qualification at Redcar & Cleveland College.
  • Functional skills Maths & English, if required.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade A*-C/9-4)
  • Maths (grade A*-C/9-4)
